Matthew Cervantes

Keck School of Medicine at USC

My name is Matthew Cervantes and I am a first-year M.D. candidate at the Keck School of Medicine at USC. Outside of school, I really enjoy playing video games like Pokemon, and have been slowly building on a penny collection from various attractions across the country. My last 4 years at USC also encompassed working a lot with my community. As an LGBTQ+ Latinx/e, I have been involved in a lot of mentorship of pre-health students in these communities, even establishing programs where I connect undergraduate students with medical students in order to streamline the process of successfully applying to medical school. Additionally, I am also involved in working with resettling and advocating for North Korean Refugees. Overall, I am heavily experienced in working with the community around Los Angeles. I am invested in serving underserved communities because as someone from these populations, having someone working and fighting to advance the community is an excellent way to do our part in reducing the disparities that we face in the medical field.
